History

The origin of the generic beer mile event is well documented at BeerMile.com. Beer miles have been run since at least the 1980s, but they tend to be infrequent, poorly advertised, and poorly attended. I'd like to see that change.

Our local event came about one night when I stayed up too late thinking about a greenway loop I'd run repeats on because it's almost exactly a quarter mile. I thought it would be a great place to host a beer mile, so I started a thread about it on the Nashville Striders message board. After discovering I'd need permits from the park board and beer board to host the beer mile on a public greenway, I decided to host the event at my house instead.
